Cooley Inks Deal to Move NYC Office to 55 Hudson Yards

Global law firm to be at epicenter of Manhattan’s future HQ of business, tech and innovation New York – July 31, 2017 – Cooley has signed a lease that will move its New York office to 55 Hudson Yards, at the heart of what is the largest private real estate development in US history and the biggest development in New York City since Rockefeller Center. In doing so, Cooley will enjoy flagship state-of-the-art office space among many of the biggest names in business and tech. More than 250 employees will occupy 130,000 square feet across five floors near the top of the building. “Becoming part of this visionary new development further reinforces our commitment to investment and growth in New York,” said Joe Conroy, Cooley’s chief executive officer. “We will be working alongside many of our clients and look forward to joining them in a stunning new environment that will be among the world’s most sophisticated law firm office spaces.” The  Hudson Yards site includes more than 18 million square feet of commercial and residential space, state-of-the-art office towers, more than 100 shops and a collection of restaurants. The development will include approximately 4,000 residences, The Shed – a new center for artistic invention – 14 acres of public open space, a 750-seat public school and an Equinox-branded luxury hotel. “We’re excited to serve our clients out of this cutting-edge space,” said Jonathan Bach, partner in charge of the firm's New York office. “This move is in line with our commitment to East Coast growth and speaks to the vibrancy of New York across the corporate, finance and tech sectors and more.” “The unprecedented commercial leasing effort at Hudson Yards has attracted over 6.4 million square feet of occupancy by some of the world’s leading businesses and we are thrilled to welcome Cooley to the neighborhood,” added Jay Cross, President of Related Hudson Yards. “Cooley is well regarded as a forward-thinking and innovative law firm and its new park front NYC headquarters in this amenity-rich neighborhood is an ideal fit for their culture, employees and future talent.” The anticipated LEED Gold, 51-story, 1.3 million gross square foot building was designed by acclaimed global architect A. Eugene Kohn of Kohn Pedersen Fox. The building is defined by its indoor-outdoor spaces, early modernism-inspired exterior design and exceptionally efficient interior space planning. Positioned at the intersection of Hudson Yards, the High Line and Hudson Park & Boulevard, 55 Hudson Yards is one of the few office buildings in the entire city that opens directly onto a park. It also sits adjacent to a No. 7 Subway station, which connects to every other major subway line as well as Grand Central Station. Penn Station is also less than a ten-minute walk away. Multiple national and regional publications consistently recognize Cooley as a great place to work, including Crain’s New York Business, which has recognized the New York office as a Best Place to Work for four consecutive years. Additionally, Fortune recently named Cooley the #1 law firm on its 100 Best Companies to Work For list.
