Mitel Simplifies UC, Features Cloud-Ready Software Stream

MCD 5.0 Includes a Host of New Features to Increase Value to Channel Partners and Lower TCO for Customers

OTTAWA, Oct. 24, 2011 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Mitel® (Nasdaq:MITL), a leading provider of unified communications and collaboration (UCC) software solutions, today announced the release of Mitel Communications Director (MCD) 5.0 software. MCD is the foundation of Mitel’s Freedom architecture, giving organizations the ability to access an advanced set of communications applications through a single, cloud-ready software stream that can be readily deployed on industry standard servers, including virtualized server environments. With today’s announcement, Mitel has incorporated multiple new features designed to make managing its software even easier than it already is. MCD 5.0 incorporates significant new features optimized for medium-to-large sized enterprises and industries such as hospitality including:

  • The ability to scale Virtual MCD (vMCD) so a single instance will support up to 2,500 users
  • A streamlined process for installing and commissioning systems, and simplified ongoing administration of the solution with features such as fully synchronized Active Directory integration
  • Support for large-scale hospitality properties, with a centralized deployment model that delivers scale and high availability to large-scale analog environments
  • The option to deploy MCD on an industry-standard server with fully redundant components, including processors, power supplies, and fans to further augment Mitel’s strong business continuity solution.

“It’s always nice to know that you’re being listened to and Mitel has demonstrated they are a strong partner by incorporating our feedback into their product development,” said Frank Ball, telecom coordinator at Okanagan College. “With this latest version of MCD, our day-to-day management has been simplified dramatically. In addition, the flexibility of their Freedom architecture gives us the ability to leverage our investment as we evolve our IT delivery strategy.”

“Through numerous conversations with our channel partners and customers, we created MCD 5.0 to deliver a host of significant design changes to more effectively address the needs of our large customer base,” said Ron Wellard, executive vice president and general manager, Mitel Communications Solutions. “This new solution improves our management capabilities for both on-site administrators and channel partners, which ultimately reduces the TCO to the customer.”
