Patton’s Cloud-Smart Euro-BRI/FXS VoIP Appliance Clears the Path to ALL-IP

Patton LogoPatton’s eSBC is a new thing. It delivers converged voice-and-data, security features, network survivability mechanisms, and service-quality analytics—plus an optional built-in VoIP Gateway that provides up to 8 ISDN BRI or analog FXS telephony ports. SmartNode™ VoIP... more than just talk!
NIEDERWANGEN, Switzerland--April 12, 2017--Patton-Inalp Networks (Switzerland), together with Patton Electronics (US manufacturer of UC, cloud, and IoT enabling solutions for carrier, enterprise and industrial networks) is now shipping a new line of cost-effective, high-performance SmartNode enterprise session border controllers (eSBC) that offer flexible combinations of 2-to-8 built-in ISDN BRI and/or POTS FXS telephony interfaces. The SmartNode eSBC is a new thing. This VoIP CPE series is designed for small-offices that need to integrate legacy BRI lines and FXS devices into SIP-based ALL-IP or cloud communication systems—including on-premise and hosted unified communications (UC). “Simple analog telephony adapters—known as ATAs—are going obsolete,” said Peter Burkhalter, CEO, Patton-Inalp. “Nowadays companies that want to connect existing voice and fax devices in All-IP environments need a much smarter CPE.” Most eSBCs are designed for SIP-to-SIP architecture—without consideration for legacy connectivity requirements, network survivability, security or QoS. TDM-to-IP telephony is typically handled by an ATA. That approach means small offices need two to five devices to execute migration to ALL-IP. Patton’s eSBC products are much richer. They deliver secure, converged voice and data with up to 8 integrated BRI and/or FXS telephony ports. You get a stateful firewall with secure TLS/SRTP encryption for signaling and voice—plus configurable protections against toll fraud and denial of service (DoS) attacks. A rich suite of failover and load-balancing mechanisms for TDM and LTE survivability ensure business continuity. If that weren’t enough, an embedded PacketSmart probe provides such QoS/QoE performance metrics as Packet Loss, Jitter, MoS and more. Even better news: a standard SmartNode 4141 VoIP gateway easily transforms into a rich-featured multi-functional eSBC appliance via license-key activation. A carrier-grade dual image feature—rarely found in low-port-count devices—offers fallback/recovery capability for system-wide software upgrades. Patton offers the feature to service providers at no additional charge. Recently Patton announced the new water-proof IP67-compliant CopperLink 1101 PoE Extender kits with outdoor enclosures that can extend 10/100 Ethernet and up to 15 Watts of 802.3af (or legacy) PoE up to 3,300 feet (915 meters).
