Gateway Order Deadlines

May 24, 2022

Please not that many deadlines are predicated on approval by the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) of the information collections required by the rule.  OMB approval is difficult to predict so tracking the FCC’s notice of approval is important.

The following obligations become effective 30 days after FCC notice of OMB approval:

  • Gateway provider filing in the robocall mitigation database (RMD)
  • Blocking calls on an established Do Not Call list
  • Respond to traceback requests within 24 business hours

Gateway providers must block traffic from foreign providers that have not registered in the RMD 90 days after the gateway provider must file in the RMD.

The following compliance deadlines are triggered by the order’s publication in the Federal Register (FR):

  • General mitigation standard, 30 days after FR publication
  • Know your upstream provider, 180 days after FR publication
  • Blocking of traffic following FCC notification identifying potential illegal traffic, starts 60 days after FR publication

Gateway provider implementation of STIR/SHAKEN, June 30, 2023.
