NEC Achieves ISO 9001:2015 Certification For Its Biometric Center Of Excellence

Achieves highest level of quality control and management for biometric identification solutions for law enforcement and public safety
Irving, Texas - February 19, 2020 - NEC Corporation of America (NEC) announced today that its Advanced Recognition Systems division has achieved  ISO 9001:2015 certification for its Biometric Center of Excellence in Rancho Cordova, California. This International Standard is the current version of the Quality Management Systems (QMS) framework, and certification was awarded by one of the world’s leading ISO management system registrars, National Quality Assurance (NQA). "NEC is committed to delivering the highest level of quality to its customers, and this certification reaffirms that commitment," said Raffie Beroukhim, Senior Vice President, Advanced Recognition Systems, NEC Corporation of America. "While the process to obtain ISO certification was extremely rigorous, it doesn't end there. NEC will continue to improve processes to ensure we are consistently exceeding the quality expectation and requirements for our customers." As a leader in advanced biometrics and a provider of more than 1,000 public safety systems globally, NEC is committed to providing customers with best-in-class quality control and management. This certificate confirms NEC's ability to develop and integrate biometric identification solutions for law enforcement and public safety agencies, as assessed and approved by the NQA. Key to ISO certification is the scope – the boundaries that govern the applicability of the certification to an organization's business. The scope includes, among others, three critical attributes: the processes, staff, and locations which comply with the standard. The scope of an organization's certification is critical to properly inform industry and customers what's included within the certified Quality Management System. NEC's Multi-Modal Identification System (MBIS) project development lifecycles are certified ISO 9001:2015 and directly relate to NEC's Integra ID and NeoFace Biometric Identification Platforms. The key process owners and their teams, as well as supporting corporate liaisons of NEC Corporation of America's Advanced Recognition Systems (ARS) Division, and Biometric Center of Excellence in Rancho Cordova, California, all completed the staff and location requirements. All of the ARS team has been trained in the QMS and are encouraged to contribute to the ongoing improvement. "NEC is proud of this accomplishment and the quality we provide to our customers," said Mark Ikeno, President and CEO, NEC Corporation of America. "At NEC we value the process of continual improvement and always strive to raise the bar higher for our customers to deliver best-in-class biometric solutions." ISO 9001:2015 is the most widely used QMS standard in the world. The standard is based upon a number of quality management principles, including a strong customer focus, the motivation and involvement of top management, the process approach, and continual improvement. To obtain certification, NEC underwent a stringent evaluation procedure, including internal and external audits of its processes, risk and change management, and evidence-based decision making. A testament to NEC's dedication to the process was the award of certification without a single non-conformity during the certification audit. Additionally, NEC received two commendations within its final certification audit for areas where its work exceeded the standard. Throughout the certification process NEC defined and validated a highly effective cross-functional organization to enhance customer satisfaction and mitigate risk. The audit also praised NEC's critical self-evaluation and improvement processes, resulting in a heightened customer focus. More at www.necam.com.
