Brownstein Announces 2022 Elevations

January 4, 2022 - Brownstein Hyatt Farber Schreck is pleased to announce 10 elevations effective Jan. 1, 2022.  Jessica Diaz (Santa Barbara),  Julian Ellis (Denver),  Chris Guillen (Santa Barbara),  Laura Langberg (Las Vegas),  Nick Larson (Denver),  David Meschke (Denver) and  Reema Nandy (Albuquerque) will become shareholders.  Greta Joynes and  David Reid will become policy directors in Washington, D.C.  Ishra Solieman will become of counsel. Shareholders Jessica Diaz is a member of the firm’s Natural Resources Department, serving as an environmental attorney with expertise in complex, niche water resources issues. She embraces challenging legal questions and guides clients through uncertain terrain in the areas of water supply and land use in California. She also has experience with large, high-stakes real estate transactions related to water and assisting institutional corporate clients with water projects. Practicing in the firm’s Litigation Department,  Julian Ellis is an experienced litigator with a focus on appellate and political matters, constitutional litigation and strategic counseling. He has served as lead counsel in high-stakes cases at both the trial and appellate levels, and regularly represents sophisticated clients litigating novel issues of first impression in federal and state courts. As part of his appellate work, Ellis also has a robust amicus practice representing clients in cases of national importance, including filing six amicus briefs in cases before the U.S. Supreme Court during the last two terms. A member of the firm’s Natural Resources Department,  Chris Guillen brings combined experience in regulation and litigation, and acts as a trusted advisor on complex natural resources projects. His expertise spans the intersection of land use and water law, with a particular emphasis in the Sustainable Groundwater Management Act (SGMA) and the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA). He relies on his unique experience to provide strategic counsel on all issues pertaining to water rights, including water-related litigation, water transactions, compliance with state regulations and water right permitting issues. A member of the firm’s Litigation Department,  Laura Langberg litigates complex commercial matters, bringing a detail-oriented approach and creative solutions to complicated issues. She helps businesses navigate and litigate disagreements among their principals and stakeholders. She also assists individuals and businesses in disagreements with others over contractual obligations, real property issues, intellectual property rights and defamation. She has represented clients in state and federal courts in Nevada and California, and the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board. Practicing in the firm’s Real Estate Department,  Nick Larson focuses on ground-up development and centers his transactional real estate practice on the interplay between private development and public construction/works contracts. He has extensive experience representing developers, equity investors and institutional lenders in real estate acquisitions, dispositions, financings and joint ventures. His work also includes urban infill, planned community and condominium development, golf courses and ski resorts, manufactured housing portfolio sales, and negotiation of construction and design contracts, including AIA and DBIA contracts. David Meschke practices in the firm’s Litigation Department. His work encompasses high-stakes litigation, including securities law, class actions, complex antitrust cases and breach of contract matters. Meschke’s practice includes all stages of litigation in both federal and state courts. He also has significant experience with appellate briefing covering a wide variety of areas and has argued before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit. Reema Nandy is a member of the firm’s Litigation Department. Her experience in both the public and private sectors makes her a particularly effective commercial litigator. Pulling from her experience in civil litigation and criminal prosecution, she navigates complex legal matters with skill and intelligence. Nandy uses her deep expertise to represent a broad range of clients in both state and federal court, covering breach of contract cases, consumer protection litigation and complex commercial disputes. Policy Directors Greta Joynes, a member of the firm’s Government Relations Department, is co-chair of the firm’s technology and telecommunications practice. As federal policymakers consider industry-altering laws and regulations on data privacy, supply chain security, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, energy, infrastructure and transportation, Joynes positions companies for success. Her technical understanding of clients’ businesses and political intuition on when and how to engage the government on their behalf has resulted in market-changing outcomes for small business coalitions, Series-A startups and Fortune 15 corporations. David Reid is a member of the firm’s Government Relations Department. He is deeply embedded in Democratic politics and draws on his personal network on the Hill, in the Biden administration and throughout the business community to build coalitions that drive policy success for clients. He works hand in glove with clients to lead complex public policy efforts related to infrastructure, hospitality, gaming, health care, technology, telecommunications and arts and entertainment. Of Counsel Ishra Solieman is a member of the firm’s Corporate & Business Department. Her mixed practice of health care regulatory compliance and litigation gives her a well-rounded perspective on a variety of health care legal issues. She is a trusted advisor to health care providers and organizations on an array of regulatory compliance issues.
