Cooley LLP announced today that Corporate Counsel's ITC litigation survey ranked it the fifth most active law firm overall and the fourth most active law firm for respondent representations. Specifically, in 2012, Cooley's ITC Section 337 litigation practice group was retained to handle six investigations, all for respondents. With the United States International Trade Commission (ITC) continuing to serve as a critical venue for parties seeking to enforce intellectual property rights, Cooley experienced a significant uptick in representations last year. In fact, Cooley has the distinction of being the fastest growing ITC Section 337 practice in the United States. Not only was Cooley retained for a significant number of new matters last year, the members of its ITC Section 337 practice group achieved several noteworthy successes. These included a complete trial victory for an international media company and a favorable summary determination judgment for Chimei Innolux and Innolux Corporation that prompted a swift resolution of the litigation. "Cooley's strategic emphasis on the expansion of an ITC Section 337 litigation capability is evidenced by our inclusion on this impressive list for the first time," said Jim Brogan, chair of Cooley's Intellectual Property practice. "Our incredibly talented group of litigators, led by Stephen R. Smith, has the ITC experience, as well as the necessary technical depth and high-stakes trial capabilities, to navigate successfully the challenges of a fast-moving Section 337 investigation."
