RINA Wireless and Metaswitch Partner to Offer Foundation for VoLTE, VoWiFi and Rich Communication Services

LOS ALTOS, Calif. and ROOSEVELT, Utah, APRIL 3, 2019 – RINA Wireless (RINA), a cooperative, peer-to-peer association of independent Communication Service Providers (CSPs) and cloud native pioneer Metaswitch announced today that they have teamed up to jointly provide an IMS Core and advanced mobile services to RINA’s consortium members and rural wireless carriers. Together, RINA and Metaswitch are helping to fill a void for many rural wireless carriers that need affordable access to an IMS Core in order to deliver Voice over LTE (VoLTE), Voice over WiFi (VoWiFi) and Rich Communications Services (RCS) by solving the capital investment hurdle facing some smaller operators when going it alone. By joining RINA, rural wireless carriers get the benefits of accelerated availability of next-generation services and the integration of wired and wireless infrastructure on a converged IMS network. The RINA-Metaswitch solution offers:
  • A complete software solution for Session Border Control (P-CSCF), I/S Call Session Control Function (CSCF) and the multimedia telephony service (MMTEL AS),
  • Technology built using web and microservices methodologies,
  • Carrier-class reliability from an IT-grade cloud,
  • An agile environment that supports dynamic, lightweight Linux containers, and
  • Highly-orchestrated instantiation for network slicing.
“RINA knows the needs of the heartland companies,” said Dennie Mecham, chief operating officer, RINA Wireless. “As an agile provider of wireline and wireless that is exceptionally competitive, we chose Metaswitch’s solution to provide member companies with a best-in-class service, next-generation technology, expense savings and reduced time to market.” IMS is the most recent offering in a long list of services from RINA designed to help regional carriers benefit from the economies of scale that a hosting vendor can provide. Other available services include LTE, SMS, MMS, Entitlement Server, CBRS and much more. “Teaming with RINA makes a lot of sense for the cooperative’s members given the wide-ranging benefits they can derive,” said Ian Maclean, CMO, Metaswitch. “As a cloud native provider, we are able to provide RINA access to next-generation technology solutions quickly and easily as they enable their members to modernize their networks.” Metaswitch will be at  Competitive Carriers Association (CCA) April 8 to 10 in Denver. Please stop by their booth #218. More at  metaswitch.com and rinawireless.com.
