RingCentral Announces Industry’s First Business SMS

Enables One Business Number for Voice, Fax and Now Text

San Mateo, Calif. – November 28, 2012 –The proliferation of smartphones and the consumerization of IT have dramatically increased the number of employees who text for business. Yet most employees are still forced to use their personal mobile numbers when texting for work. RingCentral, Inc., a leading cloud business phone system provider, is changing this. Today, the company announced the industry’s first SMS for business phone systems—empowering employees to use their business number for calls, faxes and now text messages. “Efficient and flexible communication is key as workforces become more mobile and distributed” said Vlad Shmunis, CEO and founder of RingCentral. “Yet legacy hardware-based business phone systems haven’t kept pace with these needs. Case in point—these systems do not have the capability to support texting. Here at RingCentral we’re leveraging the cloud to create the high-productivity communication tools that businesses need to be successful.” With RingCentral, businesses can enable their workforces to communicate efficiently and professionally with one business number for voice, fax and now text. In particular, RingCentral’s new Business SMS capability enables employees to:
  • Text with customers, colleagues and suppliers using their business number, even on their personal mobile device;
  • Text a department to send quick updates without needing every colleague’s individual mobile number;
  • Send and receive texts across devices including smartphones, tablets and PCs;
  • Track text along with voice and fax messages in one location on mobile devices.
“When we can't reach someone by phone, we find that sending them a text results in a greater response rate,” said Adam Fishman, director of Growth and Operations for Lyft, an innovative ride-sharing startup in San Francisco, Calif. “With text integrated into our RingCentral phone system, we will be able to continue to improve our response rates.  It will also look much more professional because we will be able to text from our business numbers.” Availability and Pricing Business SMS will be available in early 2013 at no additional cost as part of RingCentral’s Office offering. It will support iOS and Android mobile platforms. Sign up at http://marketo.ringcentral.com/sms.htmlto be notified when Business SMS is available. More at www.ringcentral.com
