Four Cooley Partners Named Women Leaders in Tech

Palo Alto – August 11, 2017 – The Recorder has named Cooley partners Barbara Borden, Heidi Keefe, Jamie Leigh and Jessica Valenzuela Santamaria to its elite Women Leaders in Tech Law list. This annual distinction recognizes recent and outstanding work by California-based lawyers whose practices focus on technology companies and issues. Borden, co-chair of Cooley's M&A practice, has been named a Women Leader in Tech Law for the past two years. She focuses her practice on M&A, cross-border transactions, joint ventures and other complex transactions, and public securities law. She recently advised ZELTIQ on
its sale to Allergan, Horizon Pharma on
its acquisition of River Vision and Sucampo on
its acquisition of Vtesse. Keefe, a five-time Women Leaders in Tech Law honoree, represents some of the hottest tech companies in the world in high-stakes patent cases. A former astrophysicist and registered patent lawyer, her knowledge spans a variety of technical disciplines, from software to medical devices. She, along with Borden, was recently named a Top Woman Lawyer by the Daily Journal. Leigh, also co-chair of Cooley's M&A group, has been involved in 100+ announced transactions with an aggregate value in excess of $50 billion. She recently advised Uber on its agreement with Yandex to create a joint venture for their ride-hailing businesses in Russia and surrounding territories. In 2016, she advised Medivation on
its agreement to sell to Pfizer for $14 billion. Valenzuela Santamaria’s practice focuses on securities, corporate governance and other complex business litigation, including the defense of securities class actions, derivative suits and M&A-related class actions. Among Valenzuela Santamaria’s recent victories is her successful representation of Pure Storage in a securities class action.
