Women Forward in Technology Program Names First Scholars

Cooley supporting scholarship effort to improve gender diversity in tech Washington, DC – October 09, 2017 – The Cooley-supported Women Forward in Technology Scholarship program has awarded 16 women with scholarships of $3,000 to pursue studies in science, technology, engineering or mathematics. The inaugural program drew 200+ applicants from more than 50 universities. “It is heartening to see so many passionate applicants participate in the first round of scholarships,” said Mike Lincoln, global chair of Cooley’s business department. “We hope this program will continue to enhance and encourage the advancement of women in tech and innovation.” Cooley, together with Distil Networks, Anchor Point Fund, Foundry Group, Techstars, FullContact, Yesware, Help Scout and Cloudability, helped to  launch the program earlier this year with the hopes that the scholarships would foster more diversity in the tech community, which has struggled with gender balance. The program demonstrates a commitment to the Tech Inclusion Pledge that was signed by 80+ companies in collaboration with the White House and President Barack Obama in 2016. Companies that sign this pledge vow “to take concrete action to make the technology workforce at each of their companies more representative of the American people.” About Cooley LLP Clients partner with Cooley on transformative deals, complex IP and regulatory matters, and high-stakes litigation, where innovation meets the law.
