Aire Networks joins the European GAIA-X project

April 6, 2021 - Aire Networks, the fourth largest Spanish telecommunications operator with a network that exceeds 27,000 kilometers, is already a member of GAIA-X , the European Data and Cloud Association . The organization announced yesterday the incorporation of the company, which thus joins the data sovereignty project to face the large American and Asian cloud platforms that currently dominate the storage and management of data in the cloud. This project, which is a public-private initiative, will benefit the European cloud world, guaranteeing alignment with the European General Data Regulation (GDPR), as well as the construction of a common public cloud that will be characterized by transparency, self-determination and orientation to the European market. It will also make it possible to offer cloud computing services provided that quality and performance standards are met. With its incorporation into GAIA-X, Aire Networks is fully involved in this initiative that seeks to make available to Spanish companies and institutions the possibility of controlling where their data is at all times . This is feasible thanks to the fact that the operator has an extensive network of data centers developed on the connectivity services that the company has, the investments made in infrastructures and a powerful orchestration tool. In addition, the initiative seeks to create unprecedented opportunities to innovate in business models and new solutions in data management, which offer European industries and companies of all sizes to scale and have a global presence. Carlos García Blanco, director of Oasix, the Cloud and datacenter division of Aire Networks, said:  “our incorporation to GAIA-X is a step forward for Spanish companies that, through our network and cloud services, will be able to develop new business models and solutions aimed at promoting them to compete on a global scale, through our local data centers with international connections ”. The GAIA-X platform, which must comply with the highest standards of digital sovereignty, will be the basis for the development of a federated, secure, open, interconnected and transparent European digital ecosystem, in which data is stored and shared under the control of their owners and in which their collection, accessibility and exchange occurs under rules agreed by the members.
