- The California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) has identified eight key issues for discussion in the ongoing VoIP regulation rulemaking proceeding, aiming to resolve regulatory ambiguities and uncertainties.
- Industry and advocacy groups submitted comments on the Scoping Memo, with some opposing VoIP regulation extension and others advocating for technologically neutral regulation similar to wireline telephony providers.
- The Cloud Communications Alliance (CCA) argued against increased regulations on VoIP service providers, stating that it would impede service provision, increase costs, and reduce competition, highlighting the differences between the VoIP and wireless markets.
- The Commission has indicated that it will issue a ruling on the VoIP regulatory proceeding by the end of 2023.
