SAN FRANCISCO, CA–(Marketwire – Nov 10, 2011) – Zencoder, the performance leader in cloud-based video encoding, today announced that they have added support for Aspera’s
fasp™ high-speed transport technology to enable content providers to quickly and securely transfer large files to the cloud for transcoding.
“We want to make cloud-based transcoding a practical solution for large content providers, and by supporting Aspera’s high-speed file transfer technology, we’re reducing the pain around moving high-bitrate content over the wide area network,” said Jon
Dahl, CEO and co-founder of Zencoder. “Content providers with multi-gigabyte video, such as broadcasters and movie studios, can now harness the speed and scalability of transcoding video in the cloud with Zencoder.”
While the scalability of the cloud is perfectly suited for processing-intensive jobs such as video transcoding, bandwidth constraints can make it a challenge to get video into and out of the cloud. With Aspera integrated into the Zencoder platform, video providers can now send video content to the cloud for transcoding at up to 700 Mbps. Once a file is in the Zencoder platform, it can be transcoded faster-than-real-time into several outputs formats simultaneously, creating massive efficiencies when compared to traditional transcoding methods.
“Aspera is excited to become an integral component of Zencoder. Our companies are both passionate about delivering the best possible performance to our customers,” said Bhavik Vyas, Director of Technology Partnerships at Aspera. “By integrating with our patented high-speed
fasp™transport protocol, the Zencoder encoding platform becomes accessible to a global user base of professional content providers who are looking to use the cloud for game-changing efficiency and productivity gains.”
Zencoder is the performance leader in cloud-based video transcoding. The Zencoder platform delivers a 99.9% encoding success rate, supports the greatest number of input video formats in the industry, and offers the fastest video transcoding available in the cloud. Using a simple REST API, Zencoder’s customers can easily access highly scalable, professional-quality video and audio encoding technology without expensive upfront hardware investments or ongoing maintenance fees. Zencoder works with hundreds of customers worldwide, including PBS Television, TwitVid, Posterous, College Humor and Yammer.
Zencoder was recently featured in a series of benchmarks released by CloudHarmony showing that Zencoder is up to 10X faster than competitive cloud-based video encoding platforms, and was the only provider that encoded 1080p video faster than real-time. Read more on Zencoder’s blog:
