Brothers sentenced for counterfeit computer deals

CONCORD, N.H. (AP) -- Two New Hampshire brothers will serve time and one must pay restitution after pleading guilty to trafficking in counterfeit computer hardware. Sixty-year-old Paul Kavalchuk and his 58-year-old brother and employee, Peter Kavalchuk, were sentenced in U.S. District Court. Both brothers pleaded guilty last year to conspiring to deal in counterfeit computer networking hardware they billed as being made by Cisco System Inc. of San Jose, California. Paul Kavalchuk, owner of East West Trading Corp. of Rye, was sentenced to 14 months in prison and ordered to make restitution of $200,000 to Cisco. He also must forfeit $300,000 to the government. Peter Kavalchuk was sentenced to four months in prison followed by four months of home confinement. The judge waived fines in his case, citing his inability to pay them.
