Brownstein Adds Armed Services Committee Staffer Sean Callahan to Washington, D.C., Office

March 3, 2021 - Brownstein Hyatt Farber Schreck welcomes Sean Callahan to its federal Government Relations team in Washington, D.C., as a senior policy advisor, furthering its national security capabilities. Callahan integrates communications and advocacy strategies to impact policy outcomes on issues related to national security, foreign affairs, labor, land development and transportation. He served as senior staff for Democratic members of both the House and Senate Armed Services committees. Callahan provides insight into legislative and regulatory processes, such as the drafting of the National Defense Authorization Act, to advocate for his clients with the precise outreach and procedural aptitude required for success. “Sean’s experience with the Armed Services committees and appropriations process gives us additional expertise in areas that are increasingly important to our clients, including those interested in maximizing federal funding opportunities related to national security,” said Marc Lampkin, Brownstein’s Government Relations Department chair. Callahan served as deputy chief of staff to Sen. Mazie Hirono (D-HI), a member of the Armed Services, Select Intelligence, Veterans Affairs, Small Business, and Energy and Natural Resources committees. He coordinated national security and foreign affairs efforts, and led congressional delegations to strategic locations domestic and abroad. Prior, Callahan served as deputy chief of staff and legislative director to Rep. Mark Takai (D-HI), a member of the Armed Services and Small Business committees. Sean led the office’s appropriations program and assisted state and local agencies in obtaining federal funding, developing best practices that he now leverages for clients. He started on Capitol Hill as a senior policy advisor and military legislative assistant to Rep. Colleen Hanabusa (D-HI). Prior to joining Brownstein, Sean served at the Collier County Board of County Commissioners, leading intergovernmental coordination with the U.S. Congress, federal agencies, Florida Legislature and state agencies. Callahan earned his B.A. from the University of Hawaii at Manoa and his M.A. in international affairs from American University.
