Brownstein Adds J. Brady Howell as Senior Policy Advisor

Brownstein Hyatt Farber Schreck is pleased to announce that J. Brady Howell will join the firm as a senior policy advisor in the Government Relations Department. Howell will be based in the Washington, D.C., office.

“Brady’s deep understanding of interactions between Congress and federal agencies gives him valuable foresight into legislative and regulatory actions, particularly in international business. With over a decade of experience working with policymakers in foreign affairs and financial services, including work as the lead legislative liaison for CFIUS, he will be a great addition to our growing bipartisan team,” said Nadeam Elshami, co-chair of Brownstein’s Government Relations Department.

Before joining Brownstein, Howell served on the House Foreign Affairs Committee under former Rep. Dan Burton (R-IN) and Chairman Ed Royce (R-CA), advising on key issues and securing the passage of significant legislation, including economic sanctions on Russia, Iran and North Korea. He then served as a senior advisor in the Treasury Department’s Office of Legislative Affairs where he acted as the lead legislative liaison for the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS), helping with the implementation of the Foreign Investment Risk Review Modernization Act (FIRRMA) and fielding congressional inquiries. He supported all aspects of the Treasury Department’s engagement with Congress, including guiding 23 presidential appointees through successful Senate confirmation.

In the private sector, Howell advised foreign business leaders on complex cross-border trade and national security issues, using his relationships and expertise in international policy to help business leaders navigate legislative and executive action while also managing geopolitical risk.

Howell received his bachelor’s degree from the College of the Holy Cross.
