Palo Alto – December 13, 2017 – The Financial Times recognized Cooley’s commitment to innovation and justice in its annual FT Innovative Lawyers North America report. The FT also labeled Cooley standout for its work with the ACLU, among other distinctions. In 2015, Cooley and the ACLU of San Diego
filed a discrimination lawsuit against Escondido, California, charging that it employed zoning and land use pretexts to discriminate against vulnerable children fleeing violence and persecution in Central America. The ensuing settlement earned the standout distinction in the report’s Rule of Law and Access to Justice category. Cooley’s introduction of a
Series Seed Note documents package, intended to broaden resources available for entrepreneurs, earned a highly commended ranking in the Data, Knowledge and Intelligence category. The firm also netted the commended distinction in the Accessing New Markets and Capital category, which recognized Cooley’s work advising Uber on a joint venture with Russian ride-hailing service Yandex.Taxi. The report separately commended M&A partners Jamie Leigh and Ben Beerle for their leadership on the transaction. The Financial Times accolades follow a powerful year of sizeable deals and litigation wins at Cooley, including a recent deal for longtime client Meredith Corporation, in which the firm advised on its
$2.8 billion agreement to acquire Time.
