Cooley Signs On to Drive Diversity in Tech Law

Palo Alto – May 1, 2019 – Cooley is participating in the Law in Technology Diversity Collaborative, a first-of-its-kind program aimed at expanding the pipeline of legal diversity by providing women, underrepresented minorities and other first-year law students with summer internships split between Bay Area tech companies and law firms. Through the new collaborative, students from Howard University Law, Santa Clara Law, Texas Southern University, University of Miami Law and other law schools with high diversity indexes will be provided with 10-week paid internships, during which they will divide their time between participating tech companies and law firms. Cooley has partnered with car sharing marketplace Turo to host an intern for the summer. In addition to Turo, the tech companies participating in the collaborative are eBay, Facebook, Hewlett Packard Enterprise, Lending Club, Symantec and Uber. Other participating law firms include Baker McKenzie, Covington & Burling, Fenwick & West, Hogan Lovells, Mayer Brown and Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe. The collaborative, which is supported by Diversity Lab, expands upon a program eBay first launched in 2016. It will host a series of events providing the opportunity for the 2019 interns to meet, learn, network and develop a lasting professional cohort. About Cooley LLP Clients partner with Cooley on transformative deals, complex IP and regulatory matters, and high-stakes litigation, where innovation meets the law.
