Daily Journal Names Two Cooley Partners Top Women Lawyers

Palo Alto – May 22, 2019 – The Daily Journal has recognized Cooley partners Barbara Borden and Heidi Keefe in its annual Top Women Lawyers report. This year marks Borden’s fifth and Keefe’s fourth appearance. Borden’s recent work on two transactions is featured in the report, including SendGrid’s $3 billion sale to Twilio and Arena Pharmaceuticals’ $1.2 billion agreement with United Therapeutics for Arena’s pulmonary arterial hypertension drug candidate ralinepag – a complex deal that was a hybrid between an exclusive license agreement and a sale of assets. The Daily Journal also notes Cooley’s strong M&A practice, which, under Borden and co-chair Jamie Leigh’s leadership, has flourished over the past decade. “I’m very proud of what we’ve achieved,” Borden told the publication, which further cites that Mergermarket last year ranked Cooley #6 in the US by public deal count. In addition to highlighting her recent work defending Facebook, the Daily Journal references Keefe’s former life as an astrophysicist and explains how that experience translates to her continued work and interest in the sciences, particularly the advancement of women in STEM and intellectual property. The report points to Keefe’s work as one of the founding members of the Women Attorneys Advocacy Project, which holds quarterly seminars with other women lawyers about how to become better advocates in the courtroom by finding their own voices. Speaking to the publication, Keefe said “In general, I think what all of us want is just to be the best lawyer who happens to be female, not a female who happens to be a lawyer.” About Cooley LLP Clients partner with Cooley on transformative deals, complex IP and regulatory matters, and high-stakes litigation, where innovation meets the law.
