Mobile network deployment fuels GENBAND’s rise in second-quarter market share rankings from leading research firms
Frisco, Texas, Sept. 3, 2013 –
GENBAND, a leading developer of multimedia and cloud communications solutions, today announced that its
SMART EDGE™ family of
session border controllers (SBCs) was the fastest growing solution in the service provider segment of the market, according to recent reports from Exact Ventures, Infonetics Research and Synergy Research Group. The Synergy
2Q 2013 Network Transformation (NGN IMS) Worldwide Market Share Report finds GENBAND accounted for 26 percent of revenue in the service provider SBC market segment, compared to 10.2 percent in the previous quarter. GENBAND’s market share increased at approximately 4.5 times the growth rate of the overall SBC market. “The rapid growth of IP multimedia traffic, especially in mobile networks and at network interconnection points, is fueling an evolution in the SBC market,” said Jeremy Duke, founder and principal analyst at Synergy. “As indicated by its recent market performance, GENBAND is poised to capitalize on this market disruption.” Deployed in many of the world’s largest networks, GENBAND’s SMART EDGE SBCs are being utilized by fixed, cable and mobile network operators to solve security and mediation issues at the borders of their IP networks. Mobile operators in particular are turning to GENBAND to oversee signaling and bearer traffic exchanges between newly deployed
Voice over LTE (VoLTE) networks and adjacent networks. “We have made significant investments in our SBC portfolio as part of our
Making Networks Smarter approach – fueling strategic differentiation through unmatched scalability and software portability,” said BG Kumar, president of GENBAND’s Multimedia Business Unit. “We recognized early that the move to IP in the mobile space would create a tremendous need for mediating and managing traffic based on multiple types of protocols and compression technologies. Accordingly, we made long-term investments to fortify our SBCs with transcoding resources capable of scaling to meet the needs of the world’s largest mobile network operators, while continually enhancing our market-leading capabilities across all media types.” Based on Exact Venture’s
Quarterly Session Border Controller (SBC) & IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) reports, GENBAND captured more than 25 percent of service provider SBC revenue in the second quarter of 2013, compared to 7 percent share in the first quarter. Infonetics’
2Q13 Service Provider VoIP & IMS Equipment, Subscribers and Market Forecast report showed GENBAND’s revenue market share climbing from 6.7 percent in the first quarter to 16.1 percent in the second quarter of 2013, with a quarter-over-quarter growth rate of 190 percent. “As VoLTE gains traction, the demand for SBC technology to oversee traffic normalization between networks will only increase,” says Greg Collins, founder of Exact Ventures. “GENBAND’s surge in the SBC market is one of the largest single-quarter increases in the past few years and highlights the magnitude and strategic importance of SBCs in mobile networks.” As a core component of GENBAND’s Making Networks Smarter strategic vision, its SMART EDGE solutions are solving the security, mediation and interoperability complexities associated with the interconnection of IP networks for hundreds of network operators and enterprises. The Commercial-off-the-Shelf (COTS) nature of GENBAND’s SBC solutions afford customers unprecedented deployment flexibility, enabling SBC functionality to be located on multiple platforms, as well as embedded into existing infrastructure components. GENBAND’s smart session management technology reduces operational complexity and simplifies the network edge by securely managing, routing, and controlling real-time voice and multimedia sessions.
