LCLD Honors Cooley With Inaugural Compass Award for Diversity Efforts

Palo Alto – October 23, 2018 – The Leadership Council on Legal Diversity named Cooley an inaugural recipient of its Compass Awards, which debuted at LCLD’s annual meeting that took place October 15 and 16 in Washington, DC. Joe Conroy, Cooley’s chief executive officer, was also honored for driving the firm’s participation in LCLD programs. The Compass Award is given to LCLD members who attend the annual meeting and participate in the LCLD Fellows program, Pathfinder program and one of the Pipeline Programs – either 1L Scholars or Success in Law School Mentoring. “Our partnership with LCLD is one that we value greatly,” said Conroy. “Not only does our involvement in its programs support Cooley’s efforts to foster a truly diverse and inclusive workplace, but these types of initiatives are critical to helping shift the legal industry toward being more inclusive as a whole.” Cooley and LCLD have a longstanding partnership. Each year, leaders from Cooley meet with representatives from LCLD and a high-profile company to discuss problems, ideas and solutions relating to diversity in law. The conversations center around personal challenges, successes, commitments and goals, as well as effective methods for incentivizing opportunity and mentorship for all. This past March, Cooley partner  Jonie Ing Kondracki was named Cooley’s 2018 LCLD fellow and lawyers  Janiece Jenkins and Kimberly Nguyen were selected as LCLD Pathfinders. Both initiatives develop leadership and professional strategies and offer training for mentorship and advancement of minority lawyers. About Cooley LLP Clients partner with Cooley on transformative deals, complex IP and regulatory matters, and high-stakes litigation, where innovation meets the law. Cooley has 900+ lawyers across 13 offices in the United States, China and Europe.
