Leadership Changes at Cooley

New York – July 31, 2020 – Effective August 1, Mike Lincoln will assume the new role of vice chair of the firm, and Kathy Pakenham will step into the role of global business department chair. In his more than 20 years with Cooley, Lincoln, who has chaired the business department since 2016, has served in a variety of leadership roles, including on the firm’s board of directors and compensation committee, while maintaining a robust practice focused on emerging companies, venture capital and mergers and acquisitions. For the last 15 years, Chambers USA has named him to its list of America's Leading Lawyers for Business, and for the last decade, he has been named a Tech Titan by Washingtonian magazine and to the Power 100 by the Washington Business Journal. As vice chair, Lincoln will remain an integral part of the firm’s senior leadership team and will be specifically charged with assisting Joe Conroy, Cooley’s chairman and chief executive officer, with matters of client relations, strategic planning, lateral growth and communications. In addition to being the next head of Cooley’s global business department, Pakenham is partner in charge of the firm’s New York office, co-chair of the firm’s tax practice and a member of the firm’s board of directors and compensation committee. She is a seasoned practitioner who advises Fortune 500 companies in matters involving complex questions of federal tax law and procedure. “Mike and Kathy are both extraordinary lawyers and leaders,” said Conroy. “I have no doubt they will continue to be exceptional stewards for the firm and will help steer this institution toward all we aspire to in the years ahead. I look forward to what we will accomplish together as they take on these new roles.” About Cooley LLP Clients partner with Cooley on transformative deals, complex IP and regulatory matters, and high-stakes litigation, where innovation meets the law.
