Overture and Masergy Win Global Telecoms Business 2015 Innovation Award

NFV Proof-of-Concept Project Selected as Best Business Service Innovation

RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C., AND DALLAS, TX – MAY 14, 2015 – Overture and Masergy today announced that their network functions virtualization (NFV) proof-of-concept, Project V-Net, was named the top Business Service Innovation by judges for the Global Telecoms Business 2015 Innovation Awards. Winners were announced yesterday at a ceremony in London. Project V-Net was launched in December with the intention of proving the viability of deploying an array of network functionality entirely in software (pure-play NFV). Overture and Masergy developed the Project V-Net platform as the foundation for a distributed solution that can be deployed at enterprise customers’ branch offices and remote locations. Project V-Net consisted of the Overture Ensemble Carrier Ethernet (ECE) VNF installed on a standard Intel-based server with router, firewall and session border controller virtualized network functions. “Overture is honored to receive this award with Masergy, a leading innovator in the delivery of global cloud networking services,” noted Prayson Pate, Overture chief technology officer. “We were able to prove we can provide high-performance service chaining on low cost hardware, enabling a pure-play NFV solution for Masergy and its customers. This innovation award recognizes the truly disruptive nature of this achievement.” “Working with an industry leader like Overture is critical to making NFV a reality,” said Tim Naramore, Masergy chief technology officer. “This proof of concept clearly demonstrates that an entire class of network functions can be successfully virtualized and carried out entirely in software. Now enterprises can eliminate the cost and complexity of installing many physical devices while scaling and controlling the same operations through software.” For more information on the GTB Innovation Awards visit: http://www.globaltelecomsbusiness.com/Stub/GTB_Innovation_Awards_2015.html
