Santa Barbara County Bar Association Honors Jessica Diaz with Pro Bono Award

November 29, 2018 - Brownstein Hyatt Farber Schreck is pleased to announce that  Jessica Diaz, an associate in the Santa Barbara office, has received the Pro Bono Award from the Santa Barbara County Bar Association for her dedicated service to the community. The Pro Bono Award recognizes individual attorneys who have donated at least 50 hours of direct legal services to low-income persons during the previous calendar year as nominated by their peers. In addition to her work advising clients on water and land use matters, Jessica is committed to her pro bono work. In 2017, she completed nearly 180 hours of pro bono service on two time-intensive matters: a successful asylum application for a teenage girl from El Salvador through Kids In Need of Defense (KIND) and working with Far Away Projects to draft and coordinate all filings with the Secretary of State and IRS to establish a nonprofit. “We are extremely proud of Jessica’s work, not only with her client work, but her dedication to give back to the Santa Barbara community,” said  Steven Amerikaner, managing partner of the Santa Barbara office. “The work she has provided for her pro bono cases is priceless and she is no doubt making a positive difference in people’s lives in the work she is doing with the local nonprofits.” This year’s awards will be presented at the Santa Barbara County Bar Association’s Annual Dinner on Nov. 30 at the Wine Cask.
